During the course will be presented a profile of the history of Latin Literature from late antiquity to the fifteenth century; a panorama of the different literary genres and themes in their historical-cultural evolution (exemplified on a wide anthology of selected passages) and some issues related to the transmission of texts and philological research will be introduced. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The main purpose of the course is to provide students with a global overview of the main literary genres and authors of Latin Literature from the sixth to the fifteenth century, through the reading, analysis and commentary of the most significant texts, with particular attention to the identification of the relations between literary facts and related historical contexts. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The specific objective of the course is to provide students with a global overview of the features of the history of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature. At the end of the course the student must be able to know the history of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature, the authors and their main works; to understand the phases of the historical-cultural evolution of Latin Literature from the 6th to the 15th century; to recognize the different literary genres and their specific characteristics; to use the basic terms of the lexicon of the discipline; to apply the basic concepts of philology to individual texts. PREREQUISITES None. TEACHING METHODS The course is divided into lectures by the teacher, which can be accompanied by other lectures given by teachers from other universities, who will present the results of their research on specific topics. Attendance (highly recommended), active participation in classes and individual study will enable the students to achieve the objectives. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam will verify the actual acquisition by the student of what has been learned both on the basis of individual study, and through listening to the topics covered during the lessons in the classroom. The exam evaluates the student's ability to know the history of Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature and to understand its historical-cultural evolution from the 6th to the 15th century (up to 15/30); to recognize the different literary genres and their peculiarities (up to 10/30); to apply the basic concepts of philology to individual texts using the specific lexicon of the discipline (up to 5/30).
