Different Types of innovative plants are described and analysed in dept with particular attention to the thermodynamic theory and performances. Moreover a detailed overview on the applications,
environmental impact and economic aspects is presented with particular regards to the current and future plant configurations and alternative fuel utilisations.
The course aims at giving to the students the theoretical knowledge for the analysis, understanding and comparison of innovative energy systems fed by fossil fuels and renewable energy sources (Fuel Cells, ORC, CCS). Moreover, with the support of practical exercises the thermo-economical system performance and the plant transient behaviour will be explained and analysed.
Worldwide and national energy production overview.
Traditional and renewable energy sources.
Environmental aspects of energy production.
Carbon capture and sequestration methods.
Energy storage by means of Hydrogen and chemicals production.

Verbal examination and practical exercises
The students will take a verbal test consisting of one or more questions, related to the topics covered in class, to monitor their level of comprehension and knowledge, and to ascertain their critical thinking and capacity of synthesis.
The practical exercises will be evaluated and discussed.
The final mark will be the average mark of the two parts of the exam (verbal and exercitations).
Pre-requisites :
Turbomachinery and energy plants
