Module Byzantine Literature: overview of some crucial Byzantine literary texts, from reading a manuscript to understanding some layers of the text, towards a philological/literary commentary. Module in Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature and Philology: the module aims to present the history of medieval and humanistic Latin literature through an analysis of its development, principal genres, authors, and the most significant works produced between the 6th and the 15th centuries. Particular attention will be devoted to the transmission of texts. A central role will be given to the philological approach, through direct readings of the works and an introduction to the methods and tools of textual criticism. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES See the two modules. PREREQUISITES Prerequisites for the Module of Byzantine Literature A good knowledge of ancient Greek is required. Prerequisites for the Module in Medieval and Humanistic Latin Literature and Philology A good knowledge of medieval history as well as of classical Latin language and literature is required. Naturally, the same prerequisites apply to non-attending students.
