OVERVIEW

The course is an introduction to the actual research in the field of nanotechnology.

It is known that many properties of the matter changes if it is confined in the nanometer scale. Today there is a big interest in the field since the technological relapses, already applied in many commercial products, are important in many fields, from energetics to mechanics

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student must be autonomous in the reading of a scientific paper, understanding the theorethical and experimental content. More, he must be able to present a topic in a clear and complete way.

TEACHING METHODS

Lesson in a room. Visit to laboratories.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

In the first part the most important experimental techniques will be presented (STM, AFM, X-ray …)

In the second part some specific topics will be introduced, especially from biomimetics: Lotus effect, Geko effect, spider silk …

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

For each argument, one or more scientific papers will be posted in the web space of the course
