The course introduces students to the knowledge of the basic items of Maritime and Shipping Law.
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the knowledge of the basic rules concerning the shipping field through the analysis of international, EU and national legislation and contracts, including specific focus on some items such as maritime property, maritime zones and Flag and Coastal States’ rights, administrative regime of the ship, sea areas and powers of the States, liability of the shipowner, safety and security, maritime contracts, etc.
At the end of the course, students will have acquired the necessary knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of the Maritime and Shipping Law. In particular, they will be able to understand legal issues and draw their own conclusions. In addition, students, having learned a correct juridical language, will be able to communicate their knowledge in a clear manner. Finally, they will have developed adequate learning skills that will allow them to develop and implement their knowledge by themselves.
The course consists of 72 hours of frontal lectures.

MARITIME AND SHIPPING LAW
Oral questions aimed at verifying students’ knowledge of the entire examination program. Attending students can take the exam by passing two intermediate written tests that will take place respectively towards the middle and at the end.
The exam aims to verify students’ learning skills in terms of knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Maritime and Shipping Law, ability to understand legal issues and draw their own critical conclusions, and ability to express themselves in a correct juridical language.
Recommendations: Students are invited to enrol in AulaWeb to access to study material and further information.
Limits: Exams can be repeated without limits.
