    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

The purpose of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge on the identification, characterization and analysis of landslide phenomena. The course focuses on the stability analyses of natural and artificial slopes, which are necessary to design mitigation countermeasures as well as for stabilizing landslides and preventing/reducing slope displacements.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

During the course, landslide classification systems, landslide risk analysis, slope surveys and monitoring will be introduced, etc. Particular attention will be paid to the evaluation of the stability conditions of the slopes, dealing with both global limit equilibrium methods and numerical analyses.

In-depth studies will be aimed at calculating the stability factor of a slope, also with reference to numerical techniques. The current standards will be studied with reference both to the natural slopes and to embankments and excavation fronts.

    TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of theoretical and practical lessons (examples of slope stability analyses by analytical and numerical approaches).

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

INTRODUCTION. CLASSIFICATION OF LANDSLIDES. LANDSLIDE RISK. INTRODUCTION TO THE STABILITY ANALYSIS OF NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL SIDES. GLOBAL LIMIT EQUILIBRIUM METHODS (INFINITE SLOPE METHOD, SLICE METHODS). NUMERICAL ANALYSES. STABILITY OF ROCK SLOPES. STANDARDS: STABILITY OF NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FRONTS (BOTH IN STATIC AND DYNAMIC CONDITIONS). SURVEYS AND MONITORING. EXAMPLES AND EXERCISES.
