    OVERVIEW

    Computer Science concerns the representation, organization and automatic processing of information.

    This course is an introduction to computer science focused on the applications and tools related to computer science, including  computers, networks and personal productivity softwares

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    To provide a set of knowledge and skills in the field of information technology to support the student in both academic path and professional activity. The course aims to provide theoretical and applicative knowledge for the understanding and use of computers and computer networks. The topics discussed in the theoretical part will be the following: digital representation of information, computer architecture, software and operating system, computer networks, the Internet and network application services. The theoretical part will be complemented by a part designed to provide practical knowledge on productivity software (Word and Excel). 

     

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    At the end of the course LCM students (6 CFU) will:
    - be familiar with a set of basic knowledge on information and communication technologies
    - have gained a deeper understanding of text encoding
    - have acquired basic knowledge about image, audio and video coding
    - have acquired basic knowledge about computer security
    - have acquired advanced competences in the use of software tools (word processors and spreadsheets)

    At the end of the course TTMI students (3 CFU) will:
    - be familiar with a set of basic knowledge on information and communication technologies
    - have gained a deeper understanding of text encoding
    - have acquired advanced competences in the use of software tools (word processors and spreadsheets)

     

    TEACHING METHODS

    Blended course composed of in class (6 hours) and online (30 hours) learning activities. Online lessons and activities are delivered through the AulaWeb learning platform.

    Lessons will be held in the second semester

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    This course aims to provide the theoretical and applicative basis for the understanding and use of computers and computer networks.
    The topics covered in the theoretical part will be the following: digital representation of information, computer architecture, software and operating system, computer networks, Internet and network application services.
    The theoretical part will be accompanied by a practical part, aimed at providing abilities on the use of computers (Microsoft Office suite).
    Special attention will given to knowledge basis and practical skills concerning language-related topics.

    - "Informatica di base", a cura di A. Marengo, A. Pagano,  McGraw-Hill Education, 2021.

    Only topics that are included in the online videos and slides on AulaWeb are to be considered for the exam.

    Textbook and readings are the same for both attending and non-attending students.

    Exam test on the thoretical and the practical part.

    - The theoretical part is different for LCM course and TTMI course, according to their programme respectively

    - The practical part concerns  Word and Excel software and is similar to exercises that are available on AulaWeb learning platform.

    FURTHER INFORMATION

    This course is split in fraction A and B, based on the last name of the student. The teachers are the same for both A and B fractions.

    Students with disabilities or learning disorders are suggested to contact the teachers. They are allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
