OVERVIEW

The course is aimed at investigating different theoretical accounts and experimental procedures typically used in the study of cognitive psychology.

At the end of the course students should be able to: - · have a basic understanding on the current literature on cognitive processes; - · have a critical understanding of empirical approaches implemented in the study of cognitive processes. .

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course students should

· have a general knowledge about the study of cognitive processes;

· be able to make a critical discussion on principal models and empirical approaches typically used in cognitive psychology.

PREREQUISITES

Knowledge of some basic accounts and theories of general psychology.

Lectures, videocast and online lectures (when available). Lecture slides, papers and other additional materials are also provided.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Fundamental accounts on cognitive psychology with a focus on attention, executive functions, language related issues, short term memory, working memory, long term memory, executive functions, intelligence, problems solving, individual and group differences and other topics related to cognitive psychology.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Essays are intended to evaluate core areas underpinning cognitive psychology. The assessment is also intended to assess the critical understanding of issues related to cognitive psychology.
