OVERVIEW

The course covers a thematic journey through the centuries from the time of the great geographical explorations to the Restoration period. The student should have a good knowledge of the general history between the ancient and medieval ages.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to clarify the fundamental themes of modern history through the different historiographic interpretations, with particular attention to the global perspective. The course also offers to deepen the methods of historical research, in its conceptual and practical aspects in relation to the analysis of archival, archaeological and iconographic sources.

With regard to the learning outcomes in general, the student, at the end of the course, will be able to understand a text on the history and historiography of the modern age, discuss it and insert it into the current scientific debate. In particular for those taking the 6 CFU course the aim will be to have developed basic knowledge of modern history. For all those who will take the 9 CFU exam, in addition to basic knowledge and disciplinary skills, the course aims to provide insights into the relationship between the history and art history of the modern age.

PREREQUISITES

To be able to read and communicate correctly in Italian. To have acquired the basic historical knowledge of secondary school. To be able to read a text in a foreign language of the European Union in addition to the mother tongue.

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures will be held in person and only in the event of an emergency will the distance mode be used on the Microsoft Teams platform at Teams channel bkfznqj.

Classes are held in presence. Attendance, although not compulsory, is recommended. The lecturer, at the specific request of a student (by e-mail), may allow him/her to follow classes remotely via “Teams” platform.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Compulsory written test on the modern history textbook and oral test on the monographic part.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

In the examination, which will be conducted in written and oral form, the candidate will be asked to explain one or more specific topics contained in the texts indicated. The candidate will be asked to illustrate these topics critically, in a correct and articulate manner and using appropriate language. The ability to establish significant links with other topics dealt with in the same text or addressed during the lessons will also be tested.

 

FURTHER INFORMATION

Given the specific nature of the course, which combines modern history and art history, class attendance is strongly recommended.
