OVERVIEW

The course consists of two modules that address the design of hydraulic works aimed at different purposes.

The module “Opere idrauliche per la difesa del territorio" intends to provide the knowledge to design the hydraulic structures for stream and river restoration as well the structural measures for the mitigation of hydraulic risk considering both the typically engineering-design issues and the environmental impact of the works on the river ecosystem.

The module “Opere idrauliche per la gestione delle risorse idriche” provides the elements necessary for the definition and design of the hydraulic structures needed for the management (intake, control, transport) of the water resource, with reference to the infrastructures for the production of hydroelectric energy (dams and run-of-the-river power generation plants).

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The general objective of the course is to provide the student with the knowledge necessary for the design of hydraulic structures for the protection of the territory and for the management and use of water resources. The teaching is divided into two specific modules that individually address the aspect of protection of the territory and management of water resources. Specifically:

The module “Opere idrauliche per la difesa del territorio" intends to provide the knowledge to design the hydraulic structures for stream and river restoration as well the structural measures for the mitigation of hydraulic risk considering both the typically engineering-design issues and the environmental impact of the works on the river ecosystem. The course envisages the involvement of a professional engineer for technical aspects related to the selection of structure typology, materials, as well as the construction site itself; a visit at a construction site in the Liguria Region will also be envisaged.

The module “opere idrauliche per la gestione delle risorse idriche” aims to provide the elements necessary for the design of hydraulic works of intake, storage, control and transport, both free surface channels and pressure pipes, relating to water resources management with a focus on the engineering-design aspects in compliance with the river ecosystem. Specific attention will be paid to works for the management of water resources aimed at the production of hydroelectric energy. A visit to a dam and hydroelectric power plant in Liguria is envisaged
