OVERVIEW

Dynamical systems are studied by using Matlab softare.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the basic notions regarding the theory of dynamical systems, their formal representation, the structural properties of systems and the concept of feedback.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will be able:
- to simulate simple physical systems in Matlab and to analyze their dynamic behavior and properties;
- to implement fedback regulators and observers in Matlab.

Besides these learning outcomes, the student who actively participates to lessons and team working activities can acquire the following  soft skills:
- social skills – basic level: capacity to manage social interactions, collaborative behaviour, constructive communication in different environments;
- capacity of learning to learn – basic level: awareness of the preferred learning stretegies, organization and evaluation of personal learning.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching methods consist in team working activities in which the students, under the supervision of the professor, must implement tools for simulation, analysis, control and estimation of simple physical systems, in Matlab, in order to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the lectures and to develop critical thinking skills.

The team working activities allow the students who actively participate to acquire social skills (basic level) and the capacity of learning to learn (basic level).

Students who have valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (DSA), for disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the professor and the contact person for disabilities of the Polytechnic School, Prof. Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it), at the beginning of the course to agree on any teaching methods that, in compliance with the objectives of the course, take into account their individual learning approach.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Simulation of dynamical systems in Matlab
Analysis of the system properties in Matlab
Implementation of feedback regulators and observers in Matlab

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY
