AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Educational Objectives

The module aims to introduce students to geriatrics as a holistic approach to the care of older adults. It seeks to develop students’ ability to recognize frailty, use geriatric assessment tools, and formulate care plans tailored to the needs of older patients and their caregivers.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

  • interpret the results of a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and critically evaluate its findings;
  • identify frail older adults and recognize the main geriatric syndromes;
  • develop an appropriate individualized care plan based on the patient's clinical, functional, and social needs;
  • integrate caregivers' needs into the planning and delivery of care for older adults.

TEACHING METHODS

The module consists of lectures combined with small-group learning activities. Clinical cases will be discussed in class to enable students to apply the concepts presented during the course and to develop an Individualized Care Plan (ICP) based on the clinical, functional, and social needs of older patients.

Active participation in case discussions is encouraged in order to enhance clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary assessment skills, and person-centred care planning.
