OVERVIEW

The Pharmacoeconomics module provides knowledge and skills to understand and apply the principles of economic evaluation of medicines and healthcare treatments, with particular reference to the role of the pharmacist within the Italian National Health Service and in hospital settings.

For the Pharmacy business management module, the course covers the main theoretical models of strategic analysis and the basics of some business functions, relating the general frameworks to the specifics of the pharmacy business.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Pharmacoeconomics module offers a general introduction to socioeconomics, with particular attention to pharmacoeconomics, health economics aspects, main economic evaluation methods, and related cost calculations and benefit quantification; it also provides knowledge on decision-making models, sensitivity analyses applied to economic evaluations, and presents examples of pharmacoeconomic analyses reported in the literature.

For the Pharmacy business management module, the aim is to introduce students to the main tools and methods of strategic analysis and to guide them in translating theoretical models into the operational management of the pharmacy.

PREREQUISITES

Basic knowledge of the organization of the Italian National Health Service, acquired in previous courses, is required for the Pharmacoeconomics module.

No prior knowledge is required for the Pharmacy business management module.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

For the Pharmacoeconomics module, the exam consists of a written examination aimed at assessing theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply learned concepts. One mid-term and one final-term examinations will also be held during the course.

For the Pharmacy business management module, the exam is held orally. The test covers all the topics discussed during the course.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

For the Pharmacoeconomics module, the exam evaluates knowledge of the fundamentals of socioeconomics and pharmacoeconomics through questions, quizzes, and/or exercises.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • Mastery of the subject
  • Ability to address topics in an interdisciplinary way
  • Clarity of presentation and appropriate use of technical terminology

For the Pharmacy business management model, during the exam, the candidate will need to show that they have learned the theoretical content, mastered the basic models, and know the specific technical terminology. They will also need to demonstrate, through proposing and/or commenting on concrete examples, a sufficient critical ability in reading the problems and identifying possible solutions.
