Exemptions

The following are planned:

.
  • reductions for merit
  • partial or total exemptions from paying the University Contribution

Merit reductions

You get the reduction "on merit" if:

  • you graduated with a grade of 100/100 and enrolled (full-time) for the first time in UniGe
  • if you graduated with a grade of 110/110 and enrolled full-time in a master's degree program in UniGe

According to Article 14 of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations, pfor the first year you are given a merit-based reduction of the university contribution of 200 euros.
For course years above the first you can get a reduction of:

  • 400 euros if you belong to the first merit bracket
  • 200 euros if you belong to the second merit bracket

N.B. The merit reduction that you accrue during the last year of a bachelor's, master's or single-cycle degree program can be used as a reduction for the first year of an eventual enrollment in UniGe in a higher level course.

You have already obtained full exemption of the University Contribution

.
  • you are enrolled or have been enrolled part-time within the last year of your course of study
  • you are not in good standing with the payment of contributions, including past contributions
  • you have obtained scholarships provided by the regional agency for the right to university study
  • you are in one of these situations of incompatibility:
    • you have already been enrolled in a course of the same or higher level (reduction "maximum grade" for 'enrollment in the first year of a bachelor's, master's, single-cycle degree program)
    • have already been enrolled in a degree program of the same or higher level (for "decile" reduction for enrollment in the I year of a bachelor's, master's, single-cycle degree program)
  • you enroll under agreements/conventions, including at the international level

To get the reduction, you don't have to submit any application, it will be applied ex officio.

ALiSEO Scholarship Winning Students.

Total exemption

If you have applied for and won the ALiSEO scholarship, you get full waiver of the university fee and regional fee

You only have to pay the stamp tax of 16 euros.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter b, and paragraph 2 of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

International students

If you are an international student, you are entitled to:

  1. complete exemption from paying second and third installment of student contribution if:
    • you have been granted refugee status under the Geneva Convention of July 28, 1951, ratified by Law No. 722
    • of July 24, 1954
    • have obtained the scholarship of the Italian government within the framework of development cooperation programs and intergovernmental cultural and scientific agreements
  2. exemption of the third installment of the student contribution if you come from developing countries (identified on the basis of Ministerial Decree June 11, 2019) and if you reside in Italy with a regular residence permit for study purposes

Students with disabilities/disabilities

(Articles 8 and 9 of the Student Contribution Regulations)

  • Total exemption from payment of  2nd and 3rd installments of fees (university contribution) and regional fee for students with disability of 66% or more.
  • Total exemption from payment of  2nd and 3rd installment of fees (university contribution) for students with disabilities, with recognition of handicap according to art.3, Law 104/1992
  • Partial exemption from payment of the 3rd installment of fees (university contribution) for students with a disability in an amount between 50 and 65%.
  • For graduation of regional fee and/or university contribution you are required to self-certify your ISEE-U data on page https://servizionline.unige.it/studenti/iseeu .

The exemption is applied for the current academic year if the documentation certifying the disability and/or disability is produced by the deadline for enrollment in the chosen course of study (deadline for payment of the 1st installment) or, if produced after that deadline, but nevertheless by the deadline for payment of the 3rd installment, provided that the effective date of recognition is prior to the aforementioned enrollment deadline. Otherwise, the waiver will be applied as of the following academic year.

Documentation proving disability and/or disabled status should be uploaded to the online services page https://servizionline.unige.it/studenti
Select "WEB-students" > enter credentials > Forms > Disability Disability DSA > Enter certifications 

The University will also automatically apply the benefit for the academic years following the one in which the certification was acquired, unless the recognition has an expiration date because it is subject to review. It will be the student's responsibility to re-produce to the University the documentation proving the continuation of tenure, which will be accepted in the same manner as in the previous paragraph.

Reductions for family units

The 30% exemption on the 3rd installment of the student contribution can be requested by students belonging to the same family unit (this means the nuclear family: spouses, parents, children, subjects united by civil union or cohabitation ex l. 76/2016), enrolled, within the normal duration of the course, in the same academic year, in bachelor's degree, single-cycle bachelor's degree/master's degree, master's degree/master's degree courses of the University of Genoa.
The belonging to the same household is ascertained through ISEE statement for the University (ISEE-U) or with ISEE-U-Parified.
N.B.No other tax documentation is allowed.
The reduction can be combined with any merit awards.
. The reduction is awarded upon special request to be submitted, for each academic year, by all interested students, within the prescribed deadline, by individually filling out the "online self-certification form" available at the dedicated webpage.
For A.Y. 2023-2024, the deadline for self-certification is April 20, 2024.
The waiver is awarded after the administration has verified:

  • the regular enrollment within the duration of the course, for the relevant academic year, by all applicants. In case this requirement is not met by all students in the household, the waiver will be applied only to those students who meet the requirement;
  • belonging to the same household, ascertained through ISEE-U statement.

Youth Support Fund

To encourage enrollment in courses of special national and community interest, UniGe is offering a partial refund of tuition and fees.

  • you are enrolled full-time in one of the following courses:
    • Chemical Chemistry and Chemical Technology
    • Physics
    • Materials Science
    • Mathematics
    • Mathematical Statistics and Computer Data Processing (SMID)
    • .
    • Geological Sciences
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Electronic engineering and information technology

Application to the Magnificent Rector

If you have serious health problems, certified by competent health facilities, you can submit application to the Magnificent Chancellor to have a partial or total exemption of the University Fee.

You will need to send the request (signed and dated):

.
  • indicating the reasons for serious health reasons
  • .
  • inserting your biographical data, matriculation number, telephone number (mobile/fixed) and updated e-mail address
  • via email to istanze.tasse@unige.it or by registered mail A/R: Al Magnifico Rettore - Università degli Studi di Genova - Via Balbi, 5 - 16126 Genova

To the application you should attach:

.
  • a double-sided copy of your valid ID
  • .
  • the ISEE-U statement
  • the certification of your serious health condition issued by the relevant health facility

You will have to send the application within the deadlines for the payment of the university contribution: go to the page Dates 

The response to your request you will be notified by email to the address you have indicated and your career will be updated automatically.

WARNING: If the administration responds to you after the deadlines for paying the university fee, don't worry: you won't have to pay any late fees.

If you pay the university fee before a response from the Administration, your file will be archived.

Other cases of exemption and summary

Students applying for ALiSEO scholarship (beneficiaries) (Art. 8(1)(b) and (2) of the Regulations)

They pay only stamp duty (€ 16)

  • Students belonging to the 1st Contribution Group with ISEE-U less than or equal to € 13,000 (Article 8, paragraph 1, letter a of the Regulations)
  • Students with disabilities, with recognition of disability pursuant to Article 3, paragraph 1, Law 104/92, or with disability equal to or greater than 66% (Article 8, paragraph 1, letter c of the Regulations)
  • Foreign students who are beneficiaries of a scholarship from the Italian government (intergovernmental agreements) (art. 8, paragraph 1, letter d of the Regulations)
  • Students who interrupt their studies due to serious infirmity, limited to the period of the infirmity (art. 8, paragraph 1, letter e of the Regulations)
  • Foreign students who have been granted refugee status (Article 8, Paragraph 1, Letter f of the Regulations)
  • Students detained in Genoa's prisons referred to in the Convention entered into on 6/4/2016 with the Regional Provveditorate of Penitentiary Administration for Piedmont, Liguria and Valle D'Aosta (art. 8, paragraph 1, letter g of the Regulations)
  • Students over 65 who intend to enroll, with full-time enrollment mode or resume their studies with reconnaissance (Article 8, paragraph 1, letter h of the Regulations)
  • . The waiver is confirmed for the current academic year for students who have benefited from it for the 2018/2019 academic year.
  • Students who have lost employment as a result of collective or individual dismissal (Article 8, paragraph 1, letter i of the Regulations)
  • Students who are recipients of extraordinary wage supplementation or solidarity contract (art.8, paragraph 1, letter i of the Regulations)

They pay only the 1st installment (stamp duty € 16 + regional tax)

  • Disabled students with a disability in an amount between 50 and 65 percent
  • Foreign students from "developing countries" (identified on the basis of Ministerial Decree No. 344 of April 8, 2022)
  • Students ranked in the top three places in rankings of competitions, projects and competitions at the national or international level, recognized by UNIGE
  • Students who, as high-level athletes, fall under the "UniGE for Champions" sports merit enhancement program (according to the provisions of the relevant regulations).

Versano 1st installment + 2nd installment

Students over the normal term/out-of-course owing as of March 31 of the final or graduation test only

Versano 1st installment + 2nd installment + 50% 3rd installment

Students enrolled within the normal duration of the course belonging to the same household. Please refer to the Family Unit Reductions page

for the terms of use.

Versan 1st installment + 2nd installment + 70% 3rd installment

Students who meet income and merit requirements belonging to the Corps of the Guardia di Finanza Regional Command Liguria.
The waiver is extended to children of military personnel of the Liguria Regional Command (including orphans). See the modalities of fruition

Pay the university contribution (2nd and 3rd installment) reduced by a variable percentage (30% or 20% or 5%) based on ISEEU, subject to verification of merit requirements

Students meeting income and merit requirements serving in Public Administration. Check out the methods of use

Pay the university contribution (2nd and 3rd installment) reduced by a variable percentage (30% or 20% or 5%) based on ISEEU, subject to verification of merit requirements

    • Graduates with a grade of 100/100 and enrolled full-time for the first time  at the University of Genoa (art. 14 paragraph 1, letter c of the Regulations)
    • Graduates with a grade of 110/110 and enrolled full-time for the first time in a Master's degree program at the University of Genoa (art. 14 paragraph 1, letter c of the Regulations)
    Versano 1st installment + reduced university fee of €200
    • Deserving students who meet the requirements of Article 14(1)(c) of the Regulations
    Versano 1st installment + reduced university fee of:
    € 400 - 1st class of merit
    € 200 - 2nd class of merit

  • Students with income requirements who hold the position of FAMILY CAREGIVER AND/OR NATURAL CAREGIVER.
  • Consult the modalities of fruition

Versan 1st installment + 2nd installment + 70% 3rd installment

Tuition reductions by merit

If you have achieved the required qualification for enrollment in this course with the highest grades and:

  • you are enrolled full-time in a Bachelor, Master (5/6 years) or Master courses (with a study plan of at least 31 CFU)
  • you are in order with the payment of taxes

for the first year you will receive a reduction for the university contribution of 200 euros.

For the following years, you can get a reduction of:

  • 400 euros if you belong to the first merit band
  • 200 euros if you fall within the second band of merit

according to art.14 of the Regolamento contribuzione studentesca e benefici universitari.

N.B. The reduction in merit that matures during the last year of a bachelor's, master’s (5/6 years), or master's course can be used as a reduction for the first year of a possible enrolment in UniGe to a higher-level course.

You are excluded from the merit reduction if:

  • you have already obtained a total exemption from the University Contribution
  • you are enrolled or have been enrolled part-time in your final year of study
  • you are not in order with the payment of the contribution, even if previous
  • You have obtained scholarships from the regional agency for the right to university study
  • you are in one of these situations of incompatibility:
    • you have already been enrolled in a course of the same or higher level ("maximum grade" reduction)
    • you have already obtained a degree of the same or higher level (for the reduction "decili")
  • you enroll on the basis of agreements/conventions, also international

To obtain the reduction you do not have to submit any request, it will be applied ex officio.
