The course in brief

Presentation

Learning by doing

The course includes, alongside traditional lessons:

  • laboratories, classroom exercises and educational outings, to provide the basic tools for studying and observing what has been learnt in the classroom
  • stages and internships at affiliated organisations and companies
  • in-depth seminars held by lecturers and experts in the field

Professional outlets

The Master's degree in Marine Biology and Ecology can work independently in the field of management, control and protection of the marine environment, in its biotic components in relation to abiotic ones and to anthropic activities. Graduates may enrol in the Professional Register of Biologists section A, to carry out activities involving the use of advanced methodologies, and may continue their studies with a PhD.

Did you know that...

You will be able to carry out technical-practical internships at Liguria's Marine Protected Areas, CNR-ISMAR and the Aquarium

Liguria has been one of the development poles of marine biology and ecology in the entire Mediterranean

You will study the latest findings in molecular biology and their applications in the marine field (Blue Technologies)

Contents

An interclass degree

The establishment of an interclass Master's degree in Marine Biology and Ecology stems from the need to train highly qualified and specialised figures capable of dealing with issues related to the marine environment with a multidisciplinary approach, integrating the more strictly biological and ecological-managerial fields.

Integrated pathway

Specifically, the aim of the course is to provide students with an education in which knowledge in the biological field is applied to the study of the marine environment, thus uniting the disciplines of the LM-6 and LM-75 classes.

The latest findings in molecular biology and their applications in the marine field (Blue Technologies) are essential for a modern approach to these topics. Particular emphasis is placed on the study of marine biodiversity, in all its components, in all environments and in its historical and relational evolution. The applicational aspects of environmental research are also extensively covered, to develop project skills in the monitoring, management, protection and conservation of marine environments, as well as skills related to the management of aquaculture facilities, aquariums, parks and marine protected areas.
