Assessment of Adequacy of Personal Readiness

What it is

The assessment of the adequacy of personal preparation is meant to ascertain the possession of the necessary basic specialist knowledge for admission to the course.

Who should conduct the Verification

How to access

To support the assessment of the graduate’s personal preparedness you must complete the pre-enrolment so that you appear on the lists of students required to sit the test.

Subsequently, if you pass the test, you must confirm your enrolment.

There is no charge for pre-enrolment or the assessment test  Payment of the enrolment fee and the regional tax is due upon confirmation of enrolment.

N.B.: Pre-enrolment and the assessment of your academic readiness are free of charge. Payment of the enrolment fee and the regional tax is due upon confirmation of enrolment.

How it works

The assessment consists of a public interview designed to assess your general knowledge, in particular your understanding of fundamental engineering concepts and the practical and professional aspects relating to specific subjects within industrial engineering.

The selection panel will also take into account your academic record from your three-year degree programme.

Your knowledge of English will be assessed via an online test administered by the University’s language centre or via an oral interview with the relevant degree programme committee.

If you graduated abroad, you will be required to sit an Italian language proficiency test to verify that you have reached level B2. If you do not pass the test, you must attend free Italian language courses organised by the University of Genoa to achieve the required level of Italian.

To prepare you

The assessment of personal knowledge will test candidates’ understanding of the fundamental topics in chemical and process engineering relating to general aspects of these disciplines, such as: Chemical Thermodynamics, Applied Physical Chemistry, Transport Phenomena, Chemical Plant Design and Industrial Chemical Processes.

The main topics on which the interview will focus are listed below, along with some recommended reading for preparation.

  • fundamentals of chemical thermodynamics in ideal systems
  • physical and chemical equilibria
  • transport phenomena (mass and energy balances) and the fundamental laws describing them
  • heat and mass transfer coefficients
  • main unit operations in chemical engineering (principles underlying unit operations, process variables  process variables, main plant configurations)
  • knowledge of technologies and the main industrial chemical processes (ammonia production, separation of air components, methanol synthesis, chlor-alkali, etc.)
