Fee reductions and exemptions

The University of Genoa applies exemptions, partial or total, from the payment of the university contribution, subject to verification of the requirements for entitlement.

These benefits are listed and detailed below and are provided for in articles 8 and 9 of the Student contribution and university benefits regulations

Aliseo Scholarship Winners

Total exemption from university contribution and regional tax - Aliseo scholarship winners


If you have applied for a scholarship provided by the Ligurian Agency for Students and Orientation (ALISEO) and you are a winner, you are entitled to Total exemption from payment of the university contribution and regional tax.
You only have to pay the stamp duty of €16 relating to enrolment for the current academic year (check the expiry date).

When paying the first instalment (enrolment for a new academic year), in order to pay only the stamp duty you must access the Study grant of the Regional Agency for the Right to University Studies present in the Online Services and enter the "protocol number" identifying your request, which can be found on the receipt of the application for the study grant, following the instructions on the dedicated page.

PLEASE NOTE: If you renounce your scholarship or if ALISEO revokes it, you will be required to supplement your student contribution (regional tax and university contribution).

Disability and/or invalidity exemptions

Total exemption

  • Total exemption from payment of the 2nd and 3rd instalments of fees (university contribution) and regional tax for students with disability equal to or greater than66%.
  • Total exemption from payment of the  2nd and 3rd instalments of fees (university contribution) for students with disabilities, with recognition of handicap pursuant to art.3, Law 104/1992.
  • Partial exemption from payment of the 3rd instalment of fees (university contribution) for students with a disability of between 50 and 65%.

For the graduation of the regional fee and/or university contribution you are required to self-certify your ISEE-U data at the page https://servizionline.unige.it/studenti/iseeu

The exemption is applied for the current academic year if the documentation certifying the disability and/or invalidity is produced by the deadline for enrolment in the chosen course of study (deadline for payment of the 1st instalment) or, if produced after that deadline, but in any case by the deadline for payment of the 3rd instalment, provided that the date on which the recognition takes effect is prior to the aforementioned enrolment deadline. Otherwise, the exemption will be applied from the following academic year.

Documents certifying disability and/or invalidity status must be uploaded on the online services page Select the "WEB-students" > enter your credentials > Forms > Disability Invalidity DSA > Enter your certifications.

The benefit will also be applied ex officio for the academic years following the year in which the certification is obtained by the deadline of the second instalment, unless the recognition of the condition is subject to revision. It will be the student's responsibility to re-submit to the University the documentation certifying continued eligibility, which will be accepted in the same way as described in the previous paragraph. If, on the other hand, the document is not subject to revision, a new upload is not necessary for each academic year.

Total exemptions

For the application of the following exemptions, the student's previous contribution position must be in order. The use of the total exemptions excludes the application, for the same academic year, of any other form of incentive or award/scholarship provided by the University.

Students are entitled to a full exemption if:

Total exemption from the payment of the second and third instalments of the student contribution if:

  • Students who have been granted refugee status (political asylum or international protection) in accordance with the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951, ratified by law no. 722 of 24 July 1954

The request for such an exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and the student's matriculation number, and the document certifying political asylum or international protection status (e.g. residence permit) must be attached.

N.B. Please pay attention to the validity of the residence permit: in the case of an expired document, a new submission with the updated document attached will be required.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter f), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

Total exemption from the payment of the second and third instalments of the student contribution if:

  • Students who have been granted refugee status (political asylum or international protection) in accordance with the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951, ratified by law no. 722 of 24 July 1954

The request for such an exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and the student's matriculation number, and the document certifying political asylum or international protection status (e.g. residence permit) must be attached.

N.B. Please pay attention to the validity of the residence permit: in the case of an expired document, a new submission with the updated document attached will be required.

  • Students who have obtained the Italian Government's scholarship for foreign students under development cooperation programmes and intergovernmental cultural and scientific agreements.

The request for this exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and student matriculation number, and an identity document and a document certifying that the student has been awarded the above-mentioned grant must be attached.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter d), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

  • Students who have obtained the Italian Government's scholarship for foreign students under development cooperation programmes and intergovernmental cultural and scientific agreements.

The request for this exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and student matriculation number, and an identity document and a document certifying that the student has been awarded the above-mentioned grant must be attached.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter d), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

  • Students interrupting their studies due to serious illness, limited to the period of the illness.

The request for such an exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and student registration number, and an identity document and a document certifying the condition of the illness must be attached.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter e), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

The request must be accompanied by an identity document and a document attesting to the condition of the student.

  • Students interrupting their studies due to serious illness, limited to the period of the illness.

The request for such an exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and student registration number, and an identity document and a document certifying the condition of the illness must be attached.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter e), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

The request must be accompanied by an identity document and a document attesting to the condition of the student.

  • Students detained at the Genoa prisons referred to in the Agreement signed on 6/4/2016 with the Regional Department of Prison Administration for Piedmont, Liguria and Valle D'Aosta.

Students must pay the regional fee, except for any financial assistance from private bodies or institutions. Total exemption will apply for instalments of the university fee due after the date of commencement. Students are also exempt from paying stamp duty, the costs of which are borne by the University.
The exemption is applied ex officio.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter g), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

  • Students detained at the Genoa prisons referred to in the Agreement signed on 6/4/2016 with the Regional Department of Prison Administration for Piedmont, Liguria and Valle D'Aosta.

  • Students who have lost their jobs as a result of collective or individual dismissal for justified objective reasons (economic reasons) or who have received notice of dismissal (collective dismissal or individual dismissal for justified objective reasons) and who fall within the notion of unemployed pursuant to art, at the time of enrolment in one of the university's courses of study, fall within the concept of unemployed persons pursuant to art. 19 of Legislative Decree no. 150/2015 and subsequent amendments, i.e. who have declared to the unitary information system for employment policies their immediate availability to carry out work activities and to participate in active employment policy measures agreed with the Employment Centre.

The request for this exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal data (surname, name, etc..) and the student's matriculation number, and must be accompanied by an identity document, a document certifying unemployed status (historical C2 issued by the employment centre), the declaration of immediate availability (DID) and the letter of dismissal with justification.

Art. 8, paragraph 1, letter i), of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations.

The request for such an exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must include personal details (surname, first name, etc.) and student registration number.) and the student's matriculation number, and must be accompanied by an identity document and a document certifying the receipt of extraordinary wage supplementation or a solidarity contract.

  • Students who are recipients of an extraordinary wage supplement or solidarity contract.

  • Students who are children of recipients of the disability pension

  • Students who are victims of terrorism, organised crime and duty and their survivors

The request for this exemption must be sent each academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: The email must contain personal data (surname, first name, etc..) and the student's matriculation number, and an identity document and a document certifying that the student is a victim of terrorism, organised crime or duty, or a survivor, must be enclosed.

Partial exemptions

Partial exemptions are cumulative, up to the amount of the University Contribution due. Depending on the type of exemption, they may be applied to the second or third instalment, respectively the first and second instalments of the University Contribution.

Students are entitled to partial exemption if:

  • Students from developing countries

Exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution if you are from one of the developing countries, identified, for the a.a. 2024/25, by the Ministerial Decree of 13 February 2024 and if you reside in Italy with a regular residence permit for study purposes.

The exemption is applied ex officio.

Art. 9, paragraph 1, of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations

  • Students from developing countries

Exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution if you are from one of the developing countries, identified, for the a.a. 2024/25, by the Ministerial Decree of 13 February 2024 and if you reside in Italy with a regular residence permit for study purposes.

The exemption is applied ex officio.

  • Students ranked in the first three places in rankings recognised by the University

Exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution for students ranked in the first three places in rankings of competitions, projects and competitions at a national or international level, recognised by UNIGE.

The request for this exemption must be sent every academic year to tasse.benefici@unige.it: the email must specify personal details (surname, name, etc.) and the student's matriculation number, and an identity document and a document certifying the position in the ranking must be attached.

Exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution for students who, as top athletes, fall under the "UniGE for Sport" programme for the enhancement of sporting merit.

  • Students over the normal/out-of-course duration in debt on 31 March of the final examination or degree alone

50% exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution for students enrolled beyond the normal duration/abroad course in debt on 31 March of the academic year of enrolment of the final examination or degree alone.

The exemption is applied ex officio.

  • Students over the normal/out-of-course duration in debt on 31 March of the final examination or degree alone

50% exemption of the third instalment of the student contribution for students enrolled beyond the normal duration/abroad course in debt on 31 March of the academic year of enrolment of the final examination or degree alone.

The exemption is applied ex officio.

  • Membership of two or more students/students in the same household

The 30% exemption on the 3rd instalment of the student contribution may be requested by students belonging to the same household (this means the nuclear family: spouses, parents, children, individuals united by civil union or cohabitation ex l. 76/2016), enrolled, within the normal duration of the course, in the same academic year, on degree courses, single-cycle specialised/master's degree courses at the University of Genoa.

The membership of the same family unit is ascertained through ISEE statement for the University (ISEE-U) or with ISEE-U-Parificato.
You must self-certify the ISEE-U figure on the online services by the established deadlines, which can be viewed on the page ISEE-U.

N.B.No other documentation of a fiscal nature is allowed.

The exemption is awarded on the basis of a request to be submitted, for each academic year, by all interested students, within the prescribed deadlines, by individually completing the "online self-certification form" available at dedicated webpage

For the academic year 2025/2026, the aforementioned application service is active from 1 October 2025 to 20 April 2026.

The waiver is granted subject to verification by the administration:

  • of regular enrolment within the duration of the course, for the academic year in question, by all applicants. In the event that this requirement is not possessed by all the students in the household, the exemption will be applied only to those students who do possess the same requirement;
  • of belonging to the same household, ascertained by means of an ISEE-U certificate.

N.B.The renunciation of studies for the current academic year entails the loss of the right to use the benefit, unless at least two students belonging to the same household are still enrolled. Similarly, the renunciation by a member of the household made after the regular payment of all the instalments of the student contribution for the current academic year shall not result in the loss of the benefit for the student still enrolled.

  • Student caregivers

The 30% exemption on the 3rd instalment of the student contribution may be requested by students meeting income requirements who are FAMILY AND/OR NATURAL CAREGIVERS.

The procedures for taking advantage of the exemption for the 2025/2026 academic year will be published shortly in this section.

  • Student caregivers

The 30% exemption on the 3rd instalment of the student contribution may be requested by students meeting income requirements who are FAMILY AND/OR NATURAL CAREGIVERS.

The procedures for taking advantage of the exemption for the 2025/2026 academic year will be published shortly in this section. 

Art. 9, paragraph 1, of the Student Contribution and University Benefits Regulations

  • Students/Student employees of the Public Administration (PA 110 e Lode Project)

The university contribution (2nd and 3rd instalment) is reduced by a percentage equal to 30% with a guaranteed minimum reduction of € 330, if the percentage calculation results in a lower amount, subject to verification of income and merit requirements students serving in the Public Administration.
