Why

Heir to the School of Architecture founded in Genoa in 1962, the degree program now stands at the forefront of teaching, learning and debate in the field of architecture and related activities.

The campus, designed in the ancient heart of the city by Ignazio Gardella, one of the masters of twentieth-century architecture, on the remains of the ancient monastic complex of San Silvestro, is a spectacular example of a campus that can offer inspiration to students, faculty and guests. In these places, a public of scholars and researchers find daily the suitable conditions for experimenting, discovering and developing knowledge through a constant and direct exchange. Moreover, the entire Genoese territory, for centuries the gateway of the Mediterranean to Europe, constitutes by its very nature a fundamental and specific source of teaching 'in the field' the principles of architecture.

Different professors of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture have been carrying out since 2019, confronting each other and external experts, a Teaching Innovation project through which they are developing new and effective teaching methodologies and techniques. The project is recounted in the book, A Year of Teaching. Innovation and Research in the School of Architecture in Genoa. Sagep, 2021.

What will you study

The course trains a graduate to work in the design processes of architecture, construction engineering and landscape.

During the first year, you will acquire fundamental knowledge to understand and represent the architectural organism, its technical components, the landscape context, and the basic scientific notions necessary for subsequent in-depth studies in the fields of structural, physical-technical, and construction disciplines.

In the second year, alongside these technical-scientific insights and the acquisition of further fundamental knowledge for the management of building and territorial processes, you will carry out intensive laboratory work in the fields of architectural, technological, urban planning, and landscape design.

In the third year you will develop a mature critical capacity towards the complexity of contemporary design and its execution, dealing also with problems related to the preservation and modification of architecture, urban, suburban and landscape spaces, economic, technical-structural, constructive evaluations.

    After graduation

Architectural Science graduate may enroll in Master's degree programs class LM-4 Architecture and Building Engineering - Architecture or class LM-3 Design of Green Areas and Landscape, 1st level Master's degree programs.
He/she may take the State Examinations for registration in Section B, Architecture sector, of the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators or Section B, a) Civil and Environmental sector of the Order of Engineers.
