Final project

What it is

In order to be admitted to the degree examination, you must have obtained all the credits envisaged by the educational system of your degree course.

The final examination consists of the discussion, before a committee, of a written paper under the guidance of a supervisor.

The paper:

  • must be on a mathematical subject
  • .
  • should be about 15 pages
  • should be done in about 100 hours of work (corresponds to 4 CFU)
  • .
  • you will be able to write it during stays at other Italian or foreign universities
  • you may also write it in English
  • .
  • you will be able to supplement it with internships and/or periods spent in companies or research organisations interested in the subject

What to do to graduate

If you are an undergraduate, you must:

  1. Choose the degree session
  2. Deposit the title of your thesis
  3. Fill out the degree application online
  4. Fill out the AlmaLaurea questionnaire online
  5. Return the books to the library, if you’ve borrowed any
  6. Fill out the questionnaire for assessment of the didactic activity

Remember:

  1. Check that you are current on your tax payments
  2. Pay the stamp duty of € 16 for the issuance of the degree certificate via the online services Payment of fees and contributions
  3. Check that you have completed all the exams and training activities and ensure that these are all recorder on your online career no later than 15 days before the date of your graduation

Co-supervisor and submission of the thesis

You must

  • complete the Mathematics Degree Form (three-year degree) to request a co-supervisor at least 30 days before your graduation date. To access the form, you must use your Office 365 credentials
  • upload your thesis file in PDF format via the Upload Thesis service by the day before the official date indicated in the degree application (if the degree examination session takes place over several days, the date of the first day of the session shall apply).
    The upload must be approved by the supervisor. Instructions are available in the Thesis Upload Guide.

Evaluation

The final grade consists of:

  • average of marks in hundredths weighted, with the exclusion of the mark that most negatively affects the average
  • assessment of the thesis: the committee may award a mark from 0 up to 6 points

N.B.If you have taken examinations in the context of international mobility agreements, exceeding at least 50% of the CFUs indicated in the Learning Agreement, you may request the exclusion of the lowest marks (from the calculation of the final average) corresponding to a maximum of 2/3 of the CFUs obtained abroad.

When the score reaches (or exceeds) 110, the committee may unanimously award the lode upon the rapporteur's proposal.

N.B.You can only graduate if you have obtained a mark of no less than 66 out of 110.

Use of lockers

Undergraduates are allowed to use a locker on the fifth floor. Please consult the relevant Rules for instructions on how to use it.
