AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at supporting students in consolidating their knowledge of the English syntaxt and vocabulary, in addition to their ability to read and understand written texts. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES - To consolidate studsents' knowledge of English syntax - To expand students' vocabulary - To help students improve their ability to read and comprehend written texts at the level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages PREREQUISITES Knowledge of the English Language at level A2. TEACHING METHODS Weekly lectures (4 hours a week over 9 weeks in the first semester) SYLLABUS/CONTENT Adverbs (Intensifiers), Comparatives and superlatives, Connecting words expressing cause and effect, contrast etc. Modals must/can’t deduction, Modals – might, may, will, Modals – should have/might have, Modals: must/have to Past simple, Simple passive, Past continuous, Present perfect continuous, Present perfect/past simple, Past perfect Phrasal verbs, Subject/Object questions, Wh- questions in the past, Will and going to, for prediction Reported speech, Conditionals, 2nd and 3rd RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY - Murphy R., Pallini l., Essential Grammar in Use, 4th edition, Cambridge, CUP.
