OVERVIEW

Today, cultural anthropology has perhaps a different function than in the past: it is useful to provide transversal and oblique reading keys with respect to the complexity of current phenomena or at least the greater perceived complexity. Taking a "different" look, a different perspective, allows us to analyze the phenomena of today in the light of other narratives and other visions of the world and to relativize problems.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide a brief outline of the history of anthropological thought and the basic theoretical and empirical tools of the discipline. The different theories and applications of cultural anthropology will be addressed in traditional societies as well as in ours. In particular, the final part of the course will focus on the issue of identity and onset of racism.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Create a greater sensitivity towards cultural diversity. Provide critical tools to analyze the complexity that marks our era. Provide different reading keys to the reading of Western society.
