A view of  short stories written by some of the most important Portuguese authors..

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 Attending this course, the student will achieve and apply skills of:

-reading and understanding about Portuguese language and literature;

- making personal judgements about different ways of writing a short story.

The student will also achieve learning skills of translation.

 

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course intends to present some of Portuguese authors through their short stories and develop critical skills.

Another purpose is to consolidate a correct use of portuguese lexiton, syntax and grammar.

PREREQUISITES

- Basic knowledge of Portuguese language.

TEACHING METHODS

- Reading and comment of the stories;​

- Notes about the authors ;

- Practice of Portuguese lexiton and grammar;

- Vision of short documentaries and films.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

- Selected short stories written by the following portuguese authors :

Eça de Queirós, Camilo Castelo Branco, Alves Redol, Alice Vieira, Manuel Alegre, Altino do Tojal, Maria Judite de Carvalho, Mia Couto, Eduardo Agualusa, Clara Ferreira Alves, Rodrigues Miguéis, Mário Dionísio, Natália Correia, José Saramago, Mário Cláudio, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.​

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

- All the texts will be distributed during the lessons, so students are kindly invited to participate.
