The course is intended for students on the degree course in Modern Languages and Cultures (2nd year - 9 CFU).
It consists of 54 annual hours of lectures.
Fraction B is taught in Spanish and is intended for students of Languages who have an adequate level of understanding of Spanish.
The participation of Language students in either the A (Italian) or B (Spanish) fraction will be at the student's discretion.
The teaching aims to illustrate salient moments of Spanish culture and literature from its origins to the 20th century in the light of general historical evolution.
The course aims to provide an overview of the main literary and cultural movements that swept through Spain between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 21st century. In view of the very close links that political and literary history had in 20th-century Spain, part of the course will be devoted to an in-depth study of the main historical events of the period in question (Cuban War, Civil War, Franchism, Democratic Transition).
At the end of the course, the student will know how to read, contextualise and relate a Spanish literary text and the historical-cultural environment in which it was generated.
The course, bibliography and examination will be entirely in Spanish. A good knowledge of the Spanish language is therefore required.
54 hours of lectures spread over the course of the year. These will be divided into 36 hours in the first semester, held by Prof. Marco Succio, and 18 hours in the second semester borrowed from the Spanish Literature and Culture III course.
Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended.

The student is expected to demonstrate knowledge of the bibliography on the syllabus, to be able to move between the different historical moments covered in the course and to have developed adequate skills in analysing and contextualising literary texts.
Students are reminded that Aulaweb will be the platform used to communicate detailed information during lessons and to share some of the study material included in the syllabus.
