OVERVIEW

The course aims to present the main issues related to sustainability at the urban and territorial levels.

In particular, it looks in depth at the main levels of institutional competence and the related procedures in an evolutionary perspective, as well as the tools aimed at planning sustainability in the various fields. The course also illustrates virtuous experiences on the international scene.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will have to be able to analyze the Plans and Programs and formulate logical links between them, developing a greater sensitivity towards the disciplines of the territory.

 

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Sustainable Planning aims to:

- develop a mature awareness of spatial disciplines through applications in different fields

- analyse planning and programming tools for different themes

- propose and compare policies for the regeneration and social and economic revitalisation of the territory

- assess sustainability in all its dimensions.

 

The course will enable students to:

- know/analyse/evaluate the main tools for sustainable spatial planning

- present and integrate the basic civil-building-environmental themes for the activity of an engineer in the field of planning and urbanism

- to develop (through case studies) the themes dealt with in order to mature a greater critical awareness of possible solutions in the field of sustainability.

 

The course aims to promote the acquisition of soft skills: personal, social, learning to learn, creative skills.

PREREQUISITES

As a master's course in the civil-construction-environmental sphere, the student must have acquired, during the Bachelor course, the following knowledge necessary to tackle the topics of the course:

- techniques and methods of the study of the territory

- basic engineering notions.

TEACHING METHODS

The 50-hour teaching consists of lectures, followed by guided thematic works, required by single student or by small groups of students.

These latter activities enhance the acquisition of soft skills: personal and social knowledge, ability to learn to learn, competence in creation.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course syllabus includes the presentation and discussion of the following topics:

- Cultures of sustainable planning

- Sustainability: milestones, Agenda 21 and best practice

- Sustainable waste management

- Slow and responsible tourism

- Territorial security against risks

- Methods and tools for sustainability assessment

- Sustainable urban mobility plan

- Infomobility and ICT

- Energy planning and renewable energy policies

 

The teaching also contributes to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda:

SDG 9 - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

SDG 11 – Make Cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

SDG 12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

SDG 13 – Climate change and its impact

SDG 14 – Conserve and sustainably use of oceans, seas, and marine resources

SDG 15 – Life on land.

 

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

All slides and other material used during the lectures will be available on @aulaweb, in English. In general, the notes taken during the lectures and the material on @aulaweb are sufficient for exam preparation. However, a more specific bibliography will be made available to the groups to support further study.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The course includes an oral examination.

 

The examination consists of two parts:

- the first consists of the presentation of the topics presented during the lectures

- the second part consists of the presentation and subsequent discussion of the results obtained on a topic of your choice from among those proposed. It is an integral part of the examination.

 

There are 3 examination dates for the winter session (January-February-March) and 3 dates for the summer session (June, July and September).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment will be carried out through an oral test, in which the overall subject knowledge and the group work carried out during the course will be evaluated.

The oral exam will mainly focus on the topics dealt with in the lectures and will have the purpose of evaluating not only if the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge, but if he has acquired the ability to critically analyze territorial problems.
