Double degree

Historical Sciences / Histoire: a French-Italian degree programme

In 2020, an agreement was signed for the award of a double degree between the University of Genoa (UNIGE) and the Université d'Aix-Marseille (AMU), as part of the Master's Degree in Historical Sciences (UNIGE) and the Master Histoire, Civilisations, Patrimoine (AMU), later renamed Histoire (https://allsh.univ-amu.fr/fr/formation/masters/master-histoire).

Students admitted to the course do part of their studies abroad and obtain a double degree, in Italy and France.

Admission requirements

Bachelor's and Master's degree holders in the humanities are admitted to this degree course, after passing a selective test aimed at ascertaining their propensity to study historical disciplines.

To participate, one must have obtained a Bachelor's degree by 31 December 2025 and be formally enrolled in the Master's degree programme in History.

A knowledge of the French language at B2 level is required; otherwise, an appropriate French language course must be included in the plan.

An annual call for applications is published, which describes the admission requirements and the selection and participation procedures.

Curricula and training plan

UNIGE students do their first year in Genoa and their second year in Aix-en-Provence.

The compilation of the study plan must be done independently by UNIGE students; AMU students must contact the International Relations Office instead.

The thesis can be written either in Italian or French, attaching an abstract (between 10 and 20 pages) in the other language. The discussion can be held either in Genoa or in Aix-en-Provence (you can choose in which language).

The dissertation can be written in Italian or French.

Annexed is the teaching plan/maquette for the dual-title programme.
