The course in brief
Presentation
In the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry degree program, topics related to various issues of chemistry applied to industrial processes and polymeric materials are taught.
In fact, the Industrial Chemistry graduate plays a strategic role as an interface between the chemist and the chemical engineer, working in the POLYMERS-PROCESSES-ENVIRONMENT fields with an open, interdisciplinary and competent mindset and keeping in mind the meaning of circular economy and sustainability.
Learning by doing
The degree program includes such teachings as: Industrial Chemistry, Catalysis, Polymer Science and Technology, and Plant and Reactor Science, accompanied by major laboratory activities.
In addition, during the dissertation the student independently carries out research activities, fundamental and applied, both in the department's laboratories and in collaboration with or at important industrial realities in Italy or abroad.
Professional outlets
The highly interdisciplinary skills acquired make the Industrial Chemist a flexible professional figure who can have access to various business functions:
- Research & Development (materials and/or processes) .
- Production and Operation
- Inline quality control
- Energy Manager
- Chemical Data Scientist
- Health, Safety and Environment
From a 2019 AlmaLaurea survey, 100 percent of Genoa graduates are employed one year after graduation.
What you will learn
-
INNOVATIVE POLYMERIC MATERIALS
Development of polymers and composites for specific advanced needs
-
SUSTAINABLE PROCESS DEVELOPMENT
From an idea in the laboratory to an industrial-scale process
-
PROCESS ANALYSIS AND OPTIMIZATION
Analysis of the quality of a process and its products
-
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND CONTROL
Technologies and materials for environmental quality control
-
LABORATORY ACTIVITIES
Experiencing/practicing the fundamental concepts acquired
-
PLANT VISITS AND INDUSTRIAL SEMINARS
Direct experience of Industrial Chemistry in the manufacturing world
Did you know that.
-
Industrial Chemistry was born out of the pioneering and multidisciplinary work of Giulio Natta.
-
Alma Laurea shows that 100% of our students are working with satisfaction 1 year after graduation.
-
You will learn to work in the POLYMERS-PROCESSES-ENVIRONMENT fields with an interdisciplinary approach.
-
You will be able to do your thesis either at DCCI or at external institutions/companies in Italy or abroad.
Contents
From its earliest days, Industrial Chemistry has been concerned with polymers and chemical processes evolving to meet the challenges of sustainability and efficiency that the Modern Society imposes on the Chemical Industry.
The Industrial Chemist:
- Designs, characterizes and develops high-tech macromolecules for the entire life cycle while minimizing their environmental impact.
- Finds sustainable solutions to recover and recycle plastic materials with a view to the circular economy.
- Innovates chemical processes by developing economically and energy efficient solutions
- Resolves environmental degradation problems by proposing environmentally friendly and industrially sustainable solutions.
- Develops process/product control systems.
Industrial Chemistry at Genoa, thanks to the deep-rooted tradition combined with the liveliness of the new generation of teachers, focuses on the interdisciplinary training of students with a solid chemical and technological cultural profile thanks to the teachings inherent to the traditional processes of Industrial Chemistry, Catalysis, Polymer Science and Technology-including the most advanced applications-and Plants.
Laboratory activities then allow the student to put fundamental concepts into practice. The cutting-edge basic and industrial research carried out by our researchers allows, especially during the dissertation, students to complete and strengthen their education by independently carrying out an original research project.
Coordinator

Welcome to the Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry program. The educational path you will have to deal with involves an in-depth study of the different areas of basic chemistry and related technologies combined with the study of polymeric materials and their properties, chemical processes and catalysis with a view to environmental sustainability and circular economy. You will have the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired-particularly during the dissertation-in laboratory activities using firsthand advanced instrumentation and addressing issues of relevant scientific and industrial interest.
