The course in brief Presentation The master's degree course trains art historians specializing in the medieval, modern, contemporary fields and in the areas of art criticism and art techniques, as well as in the field of protection and enhancement of the historical artistic heritage. Provides the cultural tools for understand and historically evaluate the Italian and international artistic heritage contribute to defend and preserve it in its unique and irreplaceable civil role know it, manage it and enhance it professionally. Learning by doing The traditional lectures are enriched by: lessons-itinerary in the city visits to exhibitions in Genoa and other cities in Italy trips to Italy and abroad visits to public and private restoration laboratories and discussions with practitioners outreach activities in-depth collateral seminars conferences and workshops professionalizing internships and apprenticeships at companies in the sector and public museums. It is possible to do part of the course abroad (Erasmus, École du Louvre). Professional outlets The graduate of this master's degree program, continuing his or her studies in some cases with the Graduate School and/or the Ph.D. program, can become: doctor of art history in school settings functional art historian in the Ministry of Culture or in local authorities conservator and director of state, local or private museum university researcher expert in antiques and the art market Contents The wealth of artistic and cultural heritage is a characteristic element of Italian identity. Italy's image abroad derives from the special connection between a multifaceted territory and landscape and the works that qualify and distinguish them: cities, churches, palaces, monuments and museums. Studying the history of art in Italy has a special civic significance and value and so does working in one of the many fields related to this field. Any investment of resources on heritage is productive. Opportunities for professional employment are increasing in the different fields-study, management, conservation and restoration, new technologies, communication-and we can all see that from this heritage our country gains prestige, wealth, work. The Master's Course in Art History trains specialists who can work in many sectors of the economic system that gravitates around art and artistic heritage.
