The course in brief

Presentation

Focused on the analysis of literary texts from antiquity to the contemporary age, it is divided into three curricula: Classical, Modern, and Music and Performance. Depending on the curriculum, interest is directed more towards Greek and Latin literatures; Italian literature per se and in relation to foreign literatures; and the relationship between literature, music, theater, cinema and new media.

Learning by doing

"Doing" means reading texts on one's own, or in the seminar and laboratory mode, translating them, interpreting them, comparing them with the writings of scholars who have focused on them. It means formulating and testing hypotheses in constant dialogue with the lecturer.

Studying literary texts means dealing with complexity, honing critical skills, being able to communicate in written and oral form arduous content, recognizing different languages from different eras.

Professional outlets

The study of literary texts, properly framed and interpreted, leads to the acquisition of critical skills and transversal skills (analysis, synthesis, expressive faculties) particularly in demand in the world of work, from the cultural industry to the world of education.

Contents

The course is based on a wide-ranging knowledge of what classical, medieval, modern and contemporary culture has produced, of which direct knowledge of the texts is essential, valuing the cultural and linguistic history of the country in which one lives.

A wide emphasis is placed on historical-geographical disciplines and linguistics, and the study of literary texts is framed within a historical framework that does not neglect the importance of philosophical culture, figurative arts and music and performing arts, cultural anthropology and foreign literatures.

The bachelor's degree graduate will be expected to demonstrate argumentative skills and general culture even beyond the specific areas, both for the purpose of further study in master's degrees and as an educational asset that allows for employment outlets in the cultural industry.
