AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The “History of Contemporary Art” course aims to give students an in-depth knowledge of the artistic events of the last two centuries from Neoclassicism to nowadays by carefully examining its historical dynamics and specific issues with particular reference to 20th century events. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide students with the methodological tools useful for a correct understanding of the main artistic phenomena of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through a detailed analysis of the currents, artists and works. The second module aims to provide the student with the methodological tools to understand the complexity of the cultural dynamics that characterize the artistic trends of the second half of the twentieth century up to the present day. The third module aims to provide the student with the critical skills to know and interpret a particular period in the context of the figurative culture of the nineteenth or twentieth century. At the end of the course, the student must be ale to accurately illustrate the lines of development of 19th and 20th century art with an appropriate lexicon; he must be able to autonomously construct paths of meaning, in both thematic and problematic terms, between the various movements in the aforementioned centuries. Finally, he must be able to critically interpret the works in relation to the historical and cultural context that produced them. PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of the main historical and cultural events of the 19th and 20th centuries. Knowledge of the most significant historical and artistic events of the 13th-18th centuries. TEACHING METHODS Lectures with projection of images and multimedia support materials. Classes are held in presence. Attendance, although not compulsory, is recommended. No remote learning is available for this course. Meetings with specialists and visits to exhibitions and museums are planned. ASSESSMENT METHODS The examination, written and oral, is designed to ascertain knowledge of the main movements and artists from neoclassicism to the present day with critical insights into twentieth-century art. The written exam covers the first part of the course (6 cfu) and includes open-ended questions on the program topics. Students may take the exam at two different times as long as they take it in the same academic year, always preceding the written part related to the first module. However, the grade will be unique and recorded at the conclusion of the two tests. The exam is passed with a passing grade if the student shows a basic knowledge of the syllabus provided in the parts of the course he or she has taken. A higher grade will be achieved by showing ability to critically eleborate the bibliographic material indicated. The threshold of excellence is reached by showing ability for independent critical judgment.
