Presentation of the volume "Giovanni di Balduccio before Milan. The ascent to success (1326-1335)": Dec. 11

Copertina di default

The book, dedicated to the Pisan sculptor Giovanni di Balduccio, among the greatest protagonists of Gothic art in Italy, active in Tuscany, Liguria and Lombardy in the first half of the 14th century, reconstructs the first phase of the master's career, prior to his move to Milan (c. 1335), with particular attention toward the role played by the patrons who promoted the sculptor's rise and the dialogue woven by him with other artistic media and especially with painting.

The comparison between the arts, started in the late thirteenth century by the likes of Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, Dante Alighieri and Giotto himself; the problem of the figure in space in relation to architecture; the indissoluble union of style and content; and the horizons of expectation of patrons will be some of the topics covered in this meeting.

The appointment is for Monday, December 11 at 3 p.m. in the Fieschi Classroom at the Dockyard.
