CODE 65448 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 1 cfu anno 1 9281 (L/SNT2) - GE SAN MARTINO SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR FIS/07 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA GE SAN MARTINO PIETRA LIGURE CHIAVARI LA SPEZIA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: PHYSICS, COMPUTER, RADIATION PROTECTION AND STATISTICS TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Medical Physics The physics course consists of a selection of the most relevant topics for students of health and nursing professions. It will bring students to face the problems in quantitative approaches. The course is divided into six modules, each of which contains teaching units consisting of videolessons, transparencies files and exercises. At the end of each teaching unit, a self-assessment test is reported. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Students must learn methodologies to understand and solve problems concerning physical and biophysical applications. It will bring students to face the problems in quantitative solution. (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING) (Dublin): 2 AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Training objectives. The course aims to lead students to face the solution of problems related to medical physics in both qualitative and quantitative terms, although limited to some aspects. It requires the student to follow the lessons online, to understand the topics of the attached slides and to solve the preparation and self-evaluation exercises. The material is available to students on Aulaweb. Students can perfect the ability to solve simple physics exercises even by following streaming lessons focused mainly on the resolution of exercises and quizzes similar to those used for exams. Only the ability to correctly face and interpret the proposed questions in the form of numerical exercises and/or quizzes can convince the student that he has understood the topics of the lessons. The student will have to acquire the ability to understand and correlate rather than rely only on mnemonic acquisition. The Nobel Prize in Physics, R.Feynman, said: « I don’t know what’s the matter with people: they don’t learn by understanding; they learn by some other way – by rote or something. Their knowledge is so fragile! » Expected learning outcomes. The student will have to learn the main elements of mechanics, thermology and thermodynamics, electricity, wave phenomena and light with particular reference to the topics of greatest relevance for students of study courses in Life Sciences. You will have to be able to interpret them through the resolution of quizzes and simple numerical exercises. The student can verify his/her preparation through the proposed self-assessment tests and the mandatory obtaining of a badge obtained by solving the evaluation quizzes sufficiently. The badge is essential to access the exam. The student must learn the main elements of mechanics, thermology and thermodynamics, electricity, wave and light phenomena, atomic and nuclear physics with particular reference to the topics of greatest relevance for students of study courses in Life Sciences. The student will have to pass the self-assessment tests in order to obtain the "badge" that allows to take the exam. TEACHING METHODS The course is provided online on Aulaweb: the student has available lessons, exercises and self-evaluation tests as well as lessons held in streaming focused on the resolution of exercises. In December, lectures are held mainly dedicated to the verification of teaching topics and the resolution of exercises. The professor proposes the comparison with lectures on the same topics held in the best universities – for example MIT – considering useful an international comparison already widely used in the past, for example in the choice of textbooks. Online teaching remains available on the Aulaweb website of the University of Genoa until February of the next A.A. to be deactivated and replaced by the next year site. SYLLABUS/CONTENT PROGRAM / CONTENTS The course is divided into eight modules, each of which contains teaching units consist of videolessons, from transparencies files and exercises. At the end of each teaching unit is a self-assessment test, which has the purpose of reinforcing the key concepts treated by reflection on the content and facilitate the preparation of the final examination in the presence. Module 1 General information on the course and introduction to the course and simulations of Physics The scientific method Language and notation (only slides with examples) Vettori and angelfish (video only) Self-assessment module 1 Module 2: Physical and Read Sizes The Laws of Dynamics Module 3: Forces and motion Self-assessments modules 2-3 Module 4: Work-Energy-Power and Conservation of mechanical energy Self-assessment module 4 Exercises Module 5: Statics of Fluids Thermodynamics and Gas perfect Heat and temperature Self-assessment module 5 Module 6: electric fields electrical Circuits Module 7: Lesson 13 - magnetic fields and alternating currents Lesson 14 - Optics Self-assessment modules 6-7 Module 8: Lesson 15 - Waves and. m. in medicine Lesson 16 - The X-ray RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Suggested bibliograpy: M.Celasco – Lineamenti di Fisica – ECIG D.Scannicchio-E.Giroletti – Elementi di Fisica Biomedica - EdiSES M.Celasco-D.Panzieri – 2000 Problemi di Fisica – ECIG Jay Newman - Physics of the Life Sciences (Springer) TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD MAURO COSTAGLI Ricevimento: the teacher receives students by appointment, in person at DINOGMI or remotely via Teams (or other means) Exam Board ROBERTO EGGENHOFFNER (President) LILIANA BELGIOIA MASSIMO MARESCA MARIA PIA SORMANI GIANNI VIARDO VERCELLI MAURO COSTAGLI (President and Coordinator of Integrated Course) LESSONS LESSONS START Lessons are published online, and students can download material from the site since the first week of November. Students are required to complete attending previous topics before beginning a new one. Class schedule L'orario di tutti gli insegnamenti è consultabile all'indirizzo EasyAcademy. EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam is held in conjunction with the courses of Radiopretection, Medical Statistics, Rigid Body Mechanics and Epidemiology. As far as the physics part is concerned, the exam requires the solution of 10 quizzes that the student must complete in fifteen minutes. Most are in multiple-choice format, only one of which is exact. There are no penalties for incorrect answers. Two of the ten questions can be asked numerically. ASSESSMENT METHODS The student must acquire a "badge" to be admitted to take the written exam in the form of a quiz test. The achievement is after passing the self-assessment tests, which help the student to evaluate the opportunity to take the exam. Most of the ten questions in each exam are in multiple choice format, only one of which is exact. There are no penalties for incorrect answers. Two of the ten questions can ask a numerical answer. The student achieves three points for each correct answer. The exam rules are presented on the Aulaweb page of the integrated course to which this course adheres.
