AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Students must learn methodologies to understand and solve problems concerning physical and biophysical applications. It will bring students to face the problems in quantitative solution. (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING) (Dublin): 2 AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The objective of this course is to guide students in tackling problems related to physics, in preparation for the core subjects of this “Corso di Laurea”. Learning Goals: Students shall learn the basic concepts of mechanics, kinematics, fluid dynamics, thermology, thermodynamics, oscillatory phenomena, electric and magnetic phenomena. Students should develop the ability to understand, reason, and correlate. PREREQUISITES Basic math knowledge TEACHING METHODS Lectures, both theoretical and dedicated to solving exercises. Students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or other certified special educational needs shall contact the instructor and the School/Department's disability coordinator at the beginning of the course to agree on any teaching methods that, while respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning styles. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Topics Covered: The scientific method; Physical quantities; Measurements; Vectors and Scalars; Forces and motion; Laws of dynamics; Work, energy, power, and conservation of mechanical energy; Statics and dynamics of fluids; Heat and temperature; Oscillatory phenomena; Electrical phenomena. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Recommended textbook: D.Scannicchio-E.Giroletti – Elementi di Fisica Biomedica - EdiSES The lecturer will also share his slides with students. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD MAURO COSTAGLI Ricevimento: Prof. Costagli is available by appointment, either in person at the University Department (DINOGMI, Neurological Clinic) or online (for example, via Teams or Meet). LESSONS LESSONS START The lessons will take place in the first semester. The class schedule will be available at the following link: https://easyacademy.unige.it › portalestudenti Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam consists of a computer-based quiz. Most of the exam questions are in multiple-choice format, with only one correct answer. Some questions may require a numerical response. The exam must be taken without consulting any written or digital materials. The use of devices such as smartphones or tablets is not permitted during the exam. It is recommended to bring a calculator (the one on your phone or tablet is not allowed), as well as a pen and a sheet of paper for performing the calculations needed to solve the quiz questions. In case of certification of specific learning disability (SLD), disability or other special educational needs, the University legislation and regulations on disability and SLD are applied. Students with SLD or other certified special educational needs shall contact the lecturer/examiner (Prof Costagli) and the Department contact person (Prof Girtler) at least 10 days before the exam, to request for additional time to take the test, and use support notes, which must fit a single A4 sheet. ASSESSMENT METHODS The assessment will evaluate the student’s understanding of the topics covered in class and their ability to correctly approach proposed problems using the knowledge and skills acquired. A solid grasp of the basic concepts of the subject is required for the exam to be considered passed.
