What it is In order to be admitted to the degree examination, you must have obtained all the credits stipulated in the educational regulations for your degree course. The degree examination consists of a written paper, also in English, on a subject in the field of mathematics, to be discussed in front of a committee. The objective of the final examination is to test your ability to produce and present with clarity and mastery a written paper on advanced topics within the subject areas of mathematics. You may supplement your work with internships and/or periods at research organisations or external companies interested in the topic of your thesis. The degree examination comprises two stages: a defence before a panel of experts a concise presentation of the thesis (20 minutes) with answers to any questions.
What to do to graduate If you are an undergraduate, you must: . Deposit the title of your thesis Choose the degree session. Fill out the AlmaLaurea questionnaire online Fill out the degree application online. In case you have books on loan, return them to the library. Fill out the assessment questionnaire for your degree.. Follow the Study Course Directions(first deadline 2 months before graduation):. Master's Degree Examination - Deadlines Request and send the at least 2 months before the form for the assignment of the corrector to the Mathematics Department's teaching secretariat. Send a copy of the dissertation to the co-rapporteur by the strict deadline of ten days before the date of the graduation session: the assessment of the dissertation will in any case be based on this version. Use of lockers Undergraduates are allowed to use a locker on the fifth floor. Please refer to the relevant Rules for instructions on how to use it. Remember: . Check that you are current on your tax payments. Pay the stamp duty of € 16 for the issuance of the degree certificate (payable via the online services - payment of fees and contributions). Check that you have taken all the exams and educational activities Check that they are all marked on your online career. Non-registration of examinations and other training activities does not prevent the completion and online confirmation of documents. In order to graduate, you will instead have to check that everything is registered online.
Evaluation The final graduation grade is the (rounded) sum of: of the weighted average of the grades in hundredths (with specific facilities if you are an internationally mobile student). of the evaluation of the thesis decided by the committee, normally between 0 and 6 points The following shall contribute to the committee's assessment: the grade in thirtieths awarded by the Committee of Experts the written dissertation the oral presentation of the thesis 0.5 points additional points(at the supervisor's suggestion) if you did your thesis abroad (international mobility) 0.5 points additional points if you have at least 3 praise 1 point additional if your work is considered excellent (possibly also for advanced mathematical content) N.B If you have taken exams as part of international mobility agreements, exceeding at least 50% of the CFUs indicated in the Learning Agreement, you can request the exclusion from the calculation of the final average of the lowest grades, corresponding at most to 2/3 of the CFUs obtained abroad. The final examination is passed if you have obtained a mark of no less than 66 out of 110. A distinction may be awarded by unanimous decision of the committee if you have obtained a final mark of 110 or above. For details, please consult the relevant Article of the Regulations.
