This course of scientific English enables students to gain sufficient specific knowledge in order to overcome the barrier of the English language, drawing from international scientific literature, not only for the purposes of professional development, but also to obtain scientifically valid information to develop evidence-based practice.
Acquire a working knowledge of the basic medical terminology (Level B1) and understanding of the written text of a scientific paper.
- Provide students with a general understanding of medical-scientific terminology.
- Understand the particular meaning of medical-scientific terms.
- Help students acquire the ability to correctly understand the contents of a scientific article.
- Develop in students the ability to gain updated information by reading and understanding international scientific literature in English.
Students must already have a basic understanding of the English language in terms of listening and reading comprehension, and writing. Students should have passed the CLAT B1 level test (Assessment Test) to sit the Inglese Scientifico exam.

MODULE 1: GENERAL ENGLISH (level B1)
Students should sit the CLAT Assessment Test (AT) before the Inglese Scientifico exam. Students who fail the AT have the opportunity to re-sit the B1 level test during the exam.

The on-campus lesson is on March 12th from 2 to 4 p.m. in Aula 3-4 (Polo Biomedico - ex Saiwa). I am available for office hours with students in the same classroom on the same day.
Lessons will start in the second semester of A.Y. 2024-26. The course on Aulaweb will be available from the 1st March 2026.

The exam is held on the Moodle platform and takes place in an ICT classroom. Students have to select the correct answer to a set of questions on medical terminology and a scientific paper.
In order to pass the exam, students have to obtain at least 14,50 points out of a total of 20 points.
The questions of the test have been developed to assess the students’ knowledge of medical-scientific terminology, and the correct comprehension of an English scientific paper.
Students can improve their English language skills by participating in ERASMUS exchange programs and by doing the excercises in the text book: ”English for Nurses and Healthcare Providers”, Ed. Ambrosiana / Zanichelli. (This text is an additional resource to strengthen students' English competence but it's NOT part of the exam syllabus).
